Arguably Ancaster’s most ardent volunteer, Jan Lukas (District 13 RTOERO Member) was recently awarded the Order of Hamilton by Mayor Andrea Horvath at the Mayor’s Levee in Ancaster.

There is a scarcely a community event in Ancaster that doesn’t see Jan taking photos and posting to social media.

Of particular interest to Jan is the annual Ancaster Community Food Drive which has provided literally tons of food over is 30-odd years.

Lukas, a retired Ancaster Highschool teacher, began volunteering with the Salvation Army at age 7 and has been a board member and organizer for countless community endeavors.  She was a recipient of the YWCA’s Women of Distinction Award and the Ontario Lieutenant General’s Medal for Good Citizen of the Year award.  She is also a past recipient of the Ancaster Citizen of the Year Award.

“I am just thankful I’m able to touch a lot of lives and able to do some good things in this world”, she commented.  “We need more positivity.”
